Heater silicon carbide sic heating elements have rather large specific resistance. When it is heated in air and the surface temperature of the hot zone reaches 1050°C,it's resistance rate is 600-1400mm2/mm and its resistance value changes as the temperature rises which is negative value from room-temperature to 800 °C  and is postive value nature over 800 °C .

The key factor to the optimum service life of the element is to select the surface load of the element correctly according to the furnace construction, atmosphere and temperature. 4. Advices of using heater silicon carbide sic heating elements

1) In order to keep furnace temperature and the charges uniform of each element, before installation resistance distribution must be carried.

2) As the element is very brittle, be careful while install and maintain to avoid any damage.

3) When start to operate the furnace, raise voltage slowly and gradually, never give full load at one time.

Key factors affecting heater silicon carbide sic heating elements life

1) Operating temperature

The higher temperature of STA heater silicon carbide sic heating elements, the shorter the life. Oxidation accelerates and the life shortens especially when the furnace chamber temperature exceeds 1600 celsius. Therefore, it is recommended the surface temperature of STA shall be kept as low as possible when in use. Namely, it is necessary to minimize the difference in temperature between inside the furnace chamber and the STA heater silicon carbide sic heating elements.

 

2) Surface loading

The surface loading density is expressed in terms of the electric power applied per square centimeter of the heating surface. As experience proves that the larger the surface loading density(electric power)of the element, the higher the surface temperature, but the higher the temperature, the shorter of the life of STA heater silicon carbide sic heating elements. Thus the surface loading density, the furnace atmosphere and temperature are in proportion to the element's aging speed ad inversely proportional to the element's service life.

3) Type of operation-continuous or intermittent

Comparing STA heater silicon carbide sic heating elements life between the case where it is continuously operated and in the case where it is intermittently operated, it is maximized in the former case. During operation, sic heating element oxidize at the surface, where a silica film is formed. With long, continued use this film gradually thickens, resulting in an increase in the resistance of the heating element. The silica film behaves abnormally by expanding or contracting at around the crystal transformation temperature(1270 celsius).If heating elements temperature goes up and down repeatedly around the temperature by intermittent use, the accumulated film will be destoryed repeatedly and oxidiation will be promoted. Therefore,when the temperature of the furnace chamber goes down to room temperature due to a power failure etc., the resistance may increase rapidly.
